Board of Directors

G. Kirk Raab
Chairman

Mr. Raab has over 45 years of pharmaceutical and biotechnology experience. He started as a salesman with Pfizer in Brooklyn, New York, and then worked in marketing management in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. He started Beecham’s pharmaceutical business in Latin America from his home in Mexico City and then served as Vice President, Latin America for Abbott Laboratories. Having relocated to Chicago, he was Executive Vice President, President and COO and a Director of Abbott.

During that period, Mr. Raab was a member of the Board of Directors of Amgen until he joined Genentech as President, COO and a Director in 1985. He was elected CEO in 1990. He was the Founding Chairman of the California Health Care Institute and the Biotechnology Industry Organization.

Since leaving Genentech in 1995, Mr. Raab has been involved in more than 15 biotech companies, many as chairman. He is presently chairman of four other companies, in addition to BiPar.

Mr. Raab graduated with honors from Colgate University and is a Trustee Emeritus. He also was a member of the Chancellor’s Court of Oxford University. He has been active as a director in many nonprofit organizations, such as the San Francisco Ballet, the San Francisco Symphony, the Art Institute of Chicago and Golden Gate Planned Parenthood.


Jesse Treu
Director

Mr. Treu has been a Partner of Domain since its inception 22 years ago. He has been a director of over 30 early-stage health care companies, 18 of which have so far become successful public companies. Present board memberships include Aesthetic Sciences, Altea Therapeutics, BiPar Sciences, CoLucid, Regado Biosciences, SenoRx and Somaxon Pharmaceuticals. Past board memberships include Biosite Diagnostics, Dianon Systems, DNX, GelTex Pharmaceuticals, Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Iomai, Lumisys, NPS Pharmaceuticals, Northstar Neuroscience, OraPharma, Sepracor, Trimeris and Viagene. He has served as a Founder, President and Chairman of numerous venture stage companies. Prior to the formation of Domain, Mr. Treu had 12 years of experience in the health care industry. Mr. Treu was V.P. of the predecessor organization to The Wilkerson Group, and its venture capital arm, CW Ventures. While at CW Ventures, he served as President and CEO of Microsonics, a pioneer in computer image processing for cardiology. From 1977 through 1982, Mr. Treu led new product development and marketing planning for immunoassay and histopathology products at Technicon Corporation (now Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics). Mr. Treu began his career with GE in 1973, initially as a research scientist developing thin film optical sensors for immunoassay testing, and subsequently serving on the corporate staff with responsibility for technology assessment and strategic planning.


Wende Hutton
Director

Seasoned healthcare investor Wende Hutton is passionate about identifying, investing in and building companies that are revolutionizing the practice of medicine. She joined Canaan in 2004, bringing diverse expertise from across the entire medical spectrum. Over the last 15 years, Wende has facilitated the market entrance of over 11 novel and lifesaving medical devices, new drugs and diagnostics. Her track record is a testament to her leadership and includes the initial public offerings of five companies, of which two were later acquired, and the acquisition of three more by medical companies. Wende began her venture career at Mayfield Fund in 1993, where she was a General Partner in the life sciences group until 2001. During her tenure at Mayfield, Wende incubated Heartstream Inc. (HPQ) and Northstar Neuroscience Inc. (NSTR), working closely with those founding teams. Most recently, she was a General Partner at Spring Ridge Ventures, a healthcare-focused seed fund. Earlier in her career, Wende held senior operational management positions at GenPharm International and Nellcor in business development and marketing.

Wende sits on the boards of Alsius Corp (Nasdaq: ALUS), Apieron Inc., BiPar Sciences, Inc., Northstar Neuroscience, Inc. (Nasdaq: NSTR), ReVision Optics, Inc. and Spaltudaq Corp. Her previous board seats include Heartstream, Inc. (acquired by Hewlett Packard), Micro Therapeutics, Inc. (acquired by ev3, Inc.), Orquest, Inc. (acquired by Johnson & Johnson), and SenoRx, Inc. (NASDAQ: SENO).

Wende holds an AB in human biology from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was a Baker Scholar. She is an active member of several community service groups, including serving as task-force leader on obesity for the Santa Clara and Mid-Peninsula YMCAs. Beyond her community service involvements, Wende’s first love is a field biology hike or lecture.


Michael Kranda
Director

Mr. Kranda has served as a director since 2005. Mr. Kranda led life sciences venture investments as Managing Director for Vulcan Capital through 2006 and continues to consult for Vulcan. He sits on the board of directors of several companies including BiPar Sciences and PTC Therapeutics. Mr. Kranda was the CEO of Oxford GlycoSciences (OGS) for six years, establishing the company as the leading proteomics platform-based drug discovery company. Prior to that, Michael spent 12 years at Immunex (now Amgen) where he served as president and chief operating officer. At Immunex, Mr. Kranda was responsible for sales and marketing, manufacturing and operations. Mr. Kranda holds a BA and an MBA from the University of Washington School of Business.


Wolfgang Oster
Director

Dr. Oster has an extensive medical background. He has undergone medical training in Europe and the U.S., is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology and has published more than 100 articles in peer reviewed medical journals and books.

His academic background and visibility as a pioneer in clinical research of biotechnology products led to his transition into the biotech industry. He was appointed by Behringwerke (a former Hoechst subsidiary) to lead the worldwide clinical programs on growth factors and cytokines. Dr. Oster was involved in the approval of the first hematopoietic growth factor in bone marrow transplant indications and he was also involved in the approval of the first biological red blood cell stimulator.

He continued his career at U.S. Bioscience. As the Managing Director for Europe from 1992-96 he brought three new products, all small molecules, through the European-wide regulatory approval processes, and several sNDAs followed these initial approvals. In 1997, as Chief Medical Officer based in Philadelphia, he led the flagship compound of the company, Ethyol, to a major approval for use in oncology. The accomplishments on the drug development side contributed to a successful trade sale of U.S. Bioscience to MedImmune in 1999.

Thereafter he became COO of NeoRx in Seattle. He reintroduced that company’s lead compound into the clinic and devised a development strategy for the radioactively labelled monoclonal antibodies in the portfolio. In 2003, he joined PolyTechnos as a Managing Partner. In such capacity, he currently serves on the boards of BiPar, IMI, and Cappella, and as an observer to Addex.

He holds an MD from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany (1982) and a PhD from the University of Freiburg, Germany (1992).


Hoyoung Huh, M.D., Ph.D.
Director, President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Huh brings exceptional experience in product development and business development to BiPar Sciences. Prior to joining BiPar Sciences, Dr. Huh served as Chief Operating Officer and Head of the PEGylation Business Unit at Nektar Therapeutics, a drug development company in the therapeutic areas of oncology, CNS/pain, diabetes and infectious diseases.

At Nektar, Dr. Huh led significant, revenue-generating partnerships with major pharmaceutical companies, including Amgen Inc., Bayer AG, Baxter International Inc., Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., Novartis AG, and Roche Holding Ltd. Prior to Nektar, Dr. Huh was a partner at McKinsey and Company, where he focused primarily in the biopharmaceutical sector in the U.S., Europe and Asia with areas of expertise in licensing, mergers and acquisitions, and innovative product launches.

As an industry thought leader, Dr. Huh speaks frequently about licensing, mergers and acquisitions, innovative product development and commercialization strategies. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at BayBio, a biotechnology industry association, and at Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ: NKTR). Dr. Huh holds an M.D. from Cornell University, a Ph.D. in Genetics/Cell Biology from the Cornell University/Sloan-Kettering Institute, and an A.B. in Biochemistry from Dartmouth College.


Michael O'Donnell
Corporate Secretary

Mr. O'Donnell is a partner specializing in corporate and securities law at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California. Mike has been providing general corporate representation to biopharmaceutical and other life sciences companies for more than 20 years, and offers particular expertise in venture capital financings, public offerings, technology licensing, and corporate partnering transactions. He has represented several public as well as numerous private biopharmaceutical, medical device, and instrumentation companies.

Mike has published several articles and has been invited to speak on corporate strategic alliances and creative financing techniques for biotechnology companies.

Eric Bell
Observer

Mr. Bell focuses on life sciences venture investments for Vulcan Capital. He represents Vulcan on the board of directors of IntraPace, Inc. Prior to Vulcan, Mr. Bell headed the business development out-licensing efforts for cancer vaccines and innate, immuno-modulators for Corixa Corporation. Before joining Corixa, Mr. Bell worked for Seattle-based Tredegar Investments where he was actively involved with several successful biotechnology and medical device investments. Earlier, he worked for Aksys, Ltd., where he developed methods for reprocessing and evaluating dialyzers; work for which he was awarded several patents. Mr. Bell holds a BS in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, an MSE in biomedical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.


Graham Cooke
Observer

Mr. Cooke joined Asset Management Company in 2000 and is in charge of the life sciences portfolio.

Graham first practiced as a physician in Australia and, after business school, became a Product Manager at Molecular Devices Corporation, a venture-backed, start-up, bio-analytical company. He then worked as a management consultant focused on health-care strategy and operations at the consulting firm of Booz, Allen & Hamilton. In 1992, Graham joined the venture capital group of Dillon Read & Co., a New York investment bank, where he focused on investments in biotechnology and medical device companies. After Dillon Read was acquired by Swiss Bank Corporation in 1997, the venture capital group was spun out to form Ticonderoga Capital, Inc. Graham became a partner of Ticonderoga and led the firm's healthcare investment activity for the next three years.

Graham has a medical degree from the University of Western Australia and he attended the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where he earned his MBA.

Graham invests in medical device and biotechnology companies. He is a director of the public biotechnology company Insmed, Inc. (NASDAQ: INSM) as well as private companies including iScience Interventional, Chimerix, Capnia and Manoa Medical.


Barry Dickman
Observer

Mr. Dickman has over thirty years experience in high-technology industries.

Prior to founding Quantum Technology Partners, Barry was President and CEO of Lightscape Technologies, a leader in 3D graphics visualization software, which was acquired by Discreet Logic. Mr. Dickman previously held executive management positions at Autodesk, and Exxon Enterprises. Barry was cofounder and CEO of Cornerstone Imaging (NASDAQ:CRNR) which was acquired by Captiva (NASDAQ:CPTV) and Image Automation which was acquired by ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM).

Mr. Dickman has consulted to major corporations including News Corp, HBO, DEC, Eastman Kodak and Adobe Systems.

Barry received his B.S. degree in Information and Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology


Kim Kamdar
Observer

Ms. Kamdar joined Domain in 2005 and became a Principal in 2006. Present board memberships include Rox Medical, Sonexa Therapeutics, Syndax Pharmaceuticals and Tragara Pharmaceuticals as well as observer status at BAS Medical, BiPar Sciences, GenVault, Lipothera and SkinMedica. Additionally, Ms. Kamdar serves as an Advisory Board Member for Evolvence India Life Sciences Fund, a private equity fund providing growth capital to Indian pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. From 2003-2004, Ms. Kamdar was a Kauffman Fellow with MPM Capital. Prior to joining MPM, Ms. Kamdar was a Research Director at Novartis. She built and led a research team that focused on the biology, genetics and genomics of model organisms to uncover small molecules that modulated signaling pathway networks. Ms. Kamdar is a founder of Aryzun Pharmaceuticals, a biotech company utilizing protein-protein interaction mapping for small molecule discovery with an initial focus on anti-infectives and oncology. Ms. Kamdar is the author of ten papers as well as the inventor on seven patents.
